Tamina Gorge and the old bath house of Pfäfers
The water has eagerly gnawed through the soft rock at the bottom of the former glacier, creating the picturesque Tamina Gorge. The thermal water warmed up in the mountain was already harnessed in Switzerland’s oldest baroque spa building.
A bathing culture developed here early on. The old bath buildings always generate awe and amazement, as they suddenly appear in the narrow gorge when you walk through it. They are the oldest baroque spa buildings in Switzerland.
Museum in the old bath house of Pfäfers
This baroque bath complex was built in the early 18th century and gently restored from 1983 to 1995. A museum on the history of the Pfäfers monastery, founded in 740, and the Pfäfers bath was established. It also houses models for the difficult development of the gorge access routes and a memorial for the natural scientist and philosopher Paracelsus. Exhibitions and concerts are held in the historic building.
