Unesco Sardona - Elm

Round hike Firstboden

Wild haymaking is still practiced up here all the way up to the Firstboden. Waterfalls accompany you along the way, and several fireplaces invite you to barbecue and linger. After a rather steep ascent from Elm, one is rewarded with an overwhelming panorama on the Firstboden at 1750 metres above sea level. From here you have a direct view of Martin’s Hole and the “magical line” of the Glarus Thrust on the Hausstock, Piz Sardona and all the way to the Foostock. Those who don’t want to take the train back down to the valley can hike through the imposing and wild Tschinglen gorge on the descent.

The starting point of the hike is the church in Elm. The steep 500 metre ascent to Tschinglenalp can also be comfortably overcome with the Tschinglen Railway. The Tschinglen restaurant on the Tschinglenalp is an inviting place to eat and drink.
